Whenever you hear the phrase “victory in Jesus”, what comes to mind? Personally, my mind goes immediately to the hymn (which will now be stuck in my head for hours, because it’s my favorite!). But beyond the hymn, what does this concept of victory look like and how does it play out in our lives as believers?
Especially whenever we are feeling like anything but victorious.
Am I alone in feeling like sometimes “victory in Jesus” seems like a difficult thing to live up to whenever we are in the middle of some deep struggling? If you’ve felt that way, I’m with ya, sis!
Today, I am going to share with you some of my favorite verses about our victory in Christ.
Bible Verses About Victory In Christ – #1: Isaiah 54:17
no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”
Isaiah 54:17, ESV
Oh my goodnesssssss, I really love this verse. For those of us who are in Christ, no weapon that is formed against us will prosper!
Bible verses about victory in Christ- #2: Romans 6:12-14
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Romans 6:12-14, ESV
Something wonderful about being in Christ and having His victory is that we are not slaves to our sin or to our flesh anymore. Before we entered into a relationship with Jesus, we were destined for death as a result of sin. But just as this verse states, we have been brought from death (as a result of sin) to life (as a result of salvation in Jesus). We are now under the grace of God.
Bible Verses about victory in christ – #3: John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
john 16:33, ESV
So often, there is this misconception that once we are Christians, that life is supposed to be easy and wonderful all the time. But that wasn’t the whole truth for our Savior who had to endure such pain and hurt on the cross. And even though life can certainly be beautiful and wonderful for sure, Scripture very plainly tells us that we will have trials and difficulties in this life. We live in a fallen world. But we can have hope because Jesus has already overcome the world. This hope enables us to move forward even in the toughest moments.
Bible Verses about victory in christ – #4: Romans 8:11
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:11, ESV
Truthfully, this verse just blows my mind. The same power and the same Spirit that brought Jesus back from life and makes Him our seal dwells in us as believers. That power is in us and available to us!
Bible Verses about victory in christ – #5: 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Corinthians 5:17-18, ESV
Sometimes, we can get so caught up in the past, in who we were or what mistakes we’ve made. But when Christ enters the picture, He changes everything. He makes us into a new creation defined by His death, burial, resurrection, and love; no longer defined by our sins. He makes us new.
Bible Verses about victory in christ – #6: Philippians 3:8-11
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Philippians 3:8-11, ESV
In the middle of our struggles, the last thing that we naturally feel is victorious. But one thing that is so special that we see in this verse is that even in our deepest struggles, we have the opportunity to get to know Him more and become more like Him.
Bible Verses about victory in christ – #7: 2 Corinthians 1:21-22
And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22, ESV
Finally, we have been sealed with Holy Spirit, which He has given us as a guarantee of our salvation. This is just so beautiful to me!
