I just recently took the Myers-Briggs personality test and it confirmed my suspicions…I am definitely an introvert.

Don’t get me wrong, I like people. But I enjoy spending time by myself too. I love getting lost in a good book, doing yoga in my room, and watching episodes of Once Upon a Time while I eat a gluten-free pizza topped with alfredo sauce and sausage. Spending time by myself is almost vital to my sanity.

As introverted and shy as I am, I sometimes become afraid to talk to people about the most important person they could ever meet; Jesus. Admittedly, I have often chose not to share the Gospel with others, even after I sense the nudging of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because I naturally default to being shy. I override grace with excuses, “God understands, right? I mean, He did create me like this after all”. ERRRRR Wrong. 

In Mark, we are given the Great Commission:

“And He said to them, “‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.'” Mark 16:15 (ESV)

This is not optional.

He didn’t say, “Cassidy, when you have a day that you feel extroverted, go tell people about me”. No. He said, “Go and Proclaim”. If you get the chance, you should really read John 14-16. They are so uplifting and encouraging! In John 14 Jesus says,

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (The Holy Spirit) to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14: 15-17 (ESV)

Wow. Talk about being humbled. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” I can honestly say that there are many days I have not acted out of love for my Jesus. Rather, I acted out of love for myself. He has even given us the Holy Spirit who lives within and will talk through us as our Helper and I still find myself making excuses.

Well, here is to walking in obedience. No more excuses. Here is to introverts shocking the world and proclaiming the name of Jesus. 

3 Introvert Approved Ways To Share The Gospel

Numero Uno: Start a Blog

I absolutely love blogging. Blogging has allowed me to create a platform from which I can proclaim the name of Jesus to people all over the world as I sit on my bed, watch Once Upon a Time annnnnd eat that pizza I was talking about.

I confess, it took me a long time to gather my wits and start this thing. But, I am so glad I did. This introvert is a people person and blogging has helped me move beyond my shyness to uplift and encourage others.

Numero Dos: Get involved in your local church

I know I know I know, social events give you the heebie-jeebies. I understand. But hear me out. Serving in your local church could look like a number of different things. You could serve in the media ministry. Maybe help prepare meals for the homeless or for Wednesday night dinners.

If you like to sing or play an instrument, you could join the choir or orchestra. Maybe you could volunteer to clean the church after a service. Or, one of my favorites, you could work with the little people (the children). Working with kids and in the student ministry has been such a blessing to me.

First, I began working in the nursery. So far so good. Then, God (very recently) asked me to serve in our student ministry, working with middle school. This is so far out of my comfort zone. My very first night, I felt like a fish out of water.

I had to push myself to form relationships with these kids, to get to know them and let them get to know me. And you know what? After my shyness evaporated, I began to love the process.

In a big group of people, I am used to quietly amusing myself with a novel or Pinterest and making sure I am not the center of attention. Now, I suddenly find myself as a leader.

Detaching myself is the exact opposite of my role.

My role is to extend myself and build relationships with these amazing young people in order to point them to Jesus. Being obedient to His leading in this area of ministry has already began to stretch me and grow me in more ways than I imagined. I can hardly wait to see what God does.

Maybe working with kids isn’t where God will lead you, but I would encourage you to prayerfully seek out an area to serve. The local church often has global ripples. By getting involved in the local church, you can be a part of sharing the Gospel to the community around you and to the world.

Numero Tres: Pass Along Cards

Ever since I was a little girl, one of my favorite ways to share the Gospel has been through “Encouragement Cards”. You can find these on Amazon or at most Christian book stores. If you are a DIYer, you can even make your own. They are about the size of a business card and often have a verse and a word of encouragement on them.

These small cards are perfect to leave on the table of a restaurant or to give to the person who bags your groceries. You can make baggies for the homeless and stick a card in them. Maybe you can pair a card with a batch of cookies and give them to a grieving widow. You could even simply carry some extra ones around in your purse or wallet. The possibilities are endless. It is such a small, easy, and introvert approved way to share the life changing hope of the Gospel.

Sharing the Gospel does not have to be anything huge.

Sometimes He calls us to share the Gospel in small simple ways. Other times, He will choose to pull us from our of our comfort zones. It is important that we obey, remembering that He has given us the Holy Spirit as our Helper.
