Discovering Your First Love: A Bible Reading Plan
For years, I have been wanting to create something special for you right in time for Valentines Day. Because let’s face it…Valentines Day can be a difficult day for those of us single pringles who are not currently in a relationship or are not married. Scrolling through our newsfeed…especially on Valentines Day, can be such painful reminders that we do not have that “special person” in our lives to love on us, to hold us, to encourage us, and do life with us. I see you, girl.
But our relationship status does not determine how loved we are (or how worthy of love we are). So whether you are a single gal with every intent to participate in Valentines Day by eating chocolate candies on the couch and watching chic flicks or a woman happily taken by the man of her dreams (or maybe somewhere in the middle?); I want to invite you to join me in discovering your First Love.
At the risk of sounding cliche, God made you to know him and have relationship with him.
As wonderful as having a handsome husband to cuddle up to would be, that man, even as godly, kind, strong, honest, and compassionate as he (LORD WILLING!) would be, he will never be able to love you in the same way that Jesus can. He will only be able to mirror it. Because our hearts were made to be satisfied by one Man alone and He is our First Love; Jesus.
It is Jesus who completes us and Jesus who makes us whole. And the best part? He already fully knows us. You are simultaneously fully known and fully loved by God! He sees every little part of our hearts and our weaknesses and still loves us in such a way that no other love could even hold a candle to it!
That’s why I wanted to make Febrary’s Resource Library Launch all about discovering your first love.
Discovering Our First Love…
For the Bible Reading Plan, I chose to divide it into 4 weeks with each week focusing on a different characteristic of God’s love::
- Week 1: The Steadfast Love of God
- Week 2: The Fatherly Love of God
- Week 3: God’s Unconditional Love
- Week 4: The Sacrificial Love of God
I want you to see in Scripture where He both tells of His love for your and displays it. He loved you so so much and so deeply desired relationship with you that He sacrificed His only Son. There could be no other way apart from Jesus. But relationship with us for all of eternity was worth that price to God.
By splitting the reading plan up in this way, it is my hope that you will be able to see that His love is sufficient for our every need. Some of us are single and desire to have a husband to love. Others may be happily married but never really known the love of a dad.
The love of God speaks to so many different places and needs in our hearts.
How to use this plan?
It is my prayer that this Discovering Your First Love Bible Reading Plan will serve as a catalyst for deeper individual Bible study. Here are my tips on getting the most out of this plan:
- Set aside a specific amount of uninterupted time each day to read through the verses for that day.
- Pull out main ideas from the verses to really meditate on.
- Journal out your thoughts about the verses and how you could apply them.
- Write out a love letter to the Lord, reflecting back on what you’ve read that day and thanking Him for the way He demonstrates His love.
- Memorize our February Focus Verse: Jeremiah 31:3
So What else comes in the February launch?
For February, I really wanted to help you meditate on this concept that the Lord is our first love. To complement the Discovering Your First Love Bible Reading Plan, I have also created some lock screen covers and a print with this months focus verse: Jeremiah 31:3. All these extras are in the Library.
I would love to see how you use your Bible reading plan!
Ultimately, this plan is simply to help give you a starting point. There are so many ways you could use these verses for study and I would LOVE to see how you used it! You can use the hashtag #discoveringmyfirstlove on Instagram if you want to share about what the Lord is teaching you during this time.
Please don’t forget…
You are deeply loved by God. And we can trust that love even during our hardest seasons.
I hope you enjoy the Discovering Your First Love Bible Reading Plan and all the other goodies for February! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
