Loneliness is not something that evades any of us.
Whether as a result of relationships, social status, health issues, or a number of other things, loneliness has become an all too familiar companion to so many of us. This post on Bible verses for loneliness is here to help.
We have all lain awake at night staring off into the darkness as this feeling slowly overwhelms our hearts. But as I think back to all those lonely moments, there is one thing that screams out to me. God created our hearts. He is acquainted with every emotion and every feeling that we have. Not only did He create our hearts, but He created them in such a way that He can completely satisfy and heal every need and every hurt.
He can completely satisfy every need of our hearts.Click To Tweet7 Bible Verses For Your Lonely Heart
1. Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (ESV)
There is so much about this verse that jumps out at me, but my absolute favorite part is right in the middle. “For it is the LORD your God who goes with you”.
To me, this is a giant light bulb moment. In my life, a big source of loneliness comes from a mysterious illness that causes me to collapse and leaves me with temporary paralysis in my neck, arms, and legs. For 6 years, I have searched for answers only to come up short with every passing doctor’s appointment.
For so long, I wanted a diagnosis so badly because I just wanted someone to talk to who knew exactly what I was going through. Then there was the physical loneliness of having to spend so much time by myself while the lives of everyone around me continued to move forward.
This part of the verse speaks so deeply to my heart because, to me, it is God saying, “Cassidy, remember who I am”.
He is Alpha and Omega. He is the creator of every star. Our God conquered the grave. He made the lame walk and opened the eyes of the blind. When He speaks, all of heaven listens. He commands the wind and waves with His voice. Our God split the sea and allowed Moses and the Israelites to walk through on dry land.
This is our God! He has no shortage of power. Our God has promised to not only go with us, but He will not abandon us or forsake us along the way.
Our God has promised to not only go with us, but He will not abandon us or forsake us along the way.Click To Tweet2. 1 Samuel 12:22
For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.” 1 Samuel 12:22 (KJV)
This past Sunday, my Pastor made a really great analogy. He was telling us a story of how is daughter, who was 7 at the time, had just gotten a new cat. Every time she was around her new cat, she had to be holding it in her arms.
He said, “She was always holding onto it for the simple reason that that cat was hers”. He went on to say that this is how God is with us. God can’t help but hold us for the simple reason that we are His. What a powerful thing.
It pleased the Lord to make you His! He is not about to forsake you.
3. Bible Verses for Loneliness – Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you. I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
When I first read this verse, I almost found myself wanting to argue with the Lord. “Lord, do you not see that I have a good reason to fear right not? Do not fear? Really? Haha, okay.” *stomps off to have a pity party*
But the more I dwell on this verse, the more it makes sense to me.
The images that come to mind are those moments where all my fears are totally calmed when I am in the presence of someone who loves me. I can be stressed out or worried about something, but when they walk in the room, it is like it all disappears. They provide a sense of comfort and security.
Their presence reminds me that everything is okay and I don’t have to go through my struggles alone. Because they are with me, because I know they love me, my fears and my anxiety are replaced with a sense of peace.
I’m sure that most of us have a person like this in our lives. Maybe someone popped up in your mind while you were reading that.
As I was thinking over this thought, my heart became so overwhelmed.
He wants us to be so in love with Him and so aware of His love, that His presence takes away our fears.
Please hear me when I say that I understand that some fears are not easily destroyed. This girl right here is all to familiar with the daily process of taking my fear, my pain, and my hurt and laying them down at the feet of Jesus.
I don’t believe for one moment that Christ expects us to not have fears and worries, but I do think that in He wants us to remember that we do not have to carry the weight of these things. We can find peace and healing in the presence of the One who loves us perfectly. He is with us. He loves us. We do not need to be afraid.
4. Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” Isaiah 43: 2 (ESV)
This verse from Isaiah brings me so much peace. We will never be overtaken or consumed because He is with us. What a powerful powerful truth!
5. Matthew 28:20
…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 (ESV)
The one phrase that comes to mind whenever I read this verse is that His Love is timeless.

6. Bible verses for Loneliness – Romans 8:35, 38-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8: 35, 38-39 (ESV)
I absolutely love these verses. There are so many times when I feel alone as a result of what is going on in my current circumstances. I tend to find myself forgetting that no circumstance is strong enough to separate us from the love of Christ.
No circumstance is strong enough to separate us from the love of Christ. Click To TweetHis Word tells us that in our trials, He is there.
In our distress, His love endures. In our present moment, He is there. He has even authored your future! He promises that no matter what is to come, you cannot be separated from His love!
7. 2 Timothy 4:16-18
At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4: 16-18 (ESV)
I included these bible verses for loneliness because I think so many of us can relate to them. How many times do we feel like we have been deserted or that we have no one to stand with us? But even when no one understands and no one stands with us, the Lord will stand with you and give you strength. He comes to our rescue. The King of all the universe is for us and promises to stand beside us no matter what.
I don’t know what you are going through today.
I don’t know what lonely road you are walking on right now. But what I do know is that even when we feel isolated, alone, and completely defeated, we still cannot escape His love or His presence. He is with you today. He has never left you…and He never will.
